Seth Houser

Camp Director

I grew up in Atlanta with 2 brothers and 2 sisters and no Nintendo, so playing sports and other games outside was always our best option. My love for the outdoors, games, people and love for Jesus all merged when I worked at Camp WinShape in 1998 as a counselor. It was my first summer on staff when another staff member told me I should do camp ministry for the rest of my life. It was my time at Camp WinShape when I saw camp as a special place where kids could get away from technology, busy schedules, and their surroundings and get to contemplate their identity in light of the God of the Universe, a place for kids to encounter Jesus. I finished Berry College’s WinShape program where I learned camp skills, challenge course skills and leadership skills and moved up to East TN in 2002.

When I came to Camp Arrowwood in 2002, I encountered one of the most beautiful places in the world with so much potential. Building a small and sustainable program where kids get individual and focused attention was a challenge for a 22 year old, but Praise the Lord that he is in control of all things and loves his people well. Some of those first Summers were definitely filled with some big adventures and some risky big water tubing trips, but we have never had any injuries and now we actually wear life jackets. Our message then and our message now to campers is that “Jesus is Alive and it’s not enough to know About Him but you can Know Him!”

2017 will be my 16th Summer here at camp. I have been wonderfully married to Amy Houser since 2002 ( I definitely caught the elevator on the way up). I have three kids who love camp even more than I do! I also serve as an Elder at my church and during the year I am the Recreation and Volunteer Director at Wears Valley Ranch. When I’m not working, you might find me playing anything outdoors - volleyball, spikeball, creating my own lifehacks or encouraging folks to try new things!

I love camp! I love coming alongside high school and college leaders every year as they serve on our Summer Staff. It is my privilege to serve them and to serve here at camp. If you want to know more about me, please contact me!

Ryan McCaffrey

Equestrian Director

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Wheaton College where I also played football.  I’ve served as a wrangler and equestrian assistant at several camp and conference centers before coming to Camp Arrowwood in 2006.  I am an instructor through the Certified Horsemanship Association and love teaching campers about horses, leadership, trusting the Lord and we even play a little horse soccer from time to time.  I just celebrated my 10th summer at #thebestcamp in 2016.

Jim Wood

Executive Director Wears Valley Ranch

My first experience at overnight camp was when I was nine years old. Then, in high school and college, I worked as a camp counselor in Virginia and North Carolina. Before we built anything at Wears Valley Ranch, an important part of our vision was to have a camp where young people could have a fresh experience of God's presence in a beautiful natural setting. Our goal in everything we do is to make the Gospel believable.

In addition to being the Executive Director of Wears Valley Ranch, I also host
a nationally syndicated radio program, Abiding in Christ. My lovely wife Susan and I have been married for over 40 years and have seven children and ten grandchildren.

Maria Bober

LIT Director

I was born and raised in Detmold, Germany. I have a sister and three brothers. I graduated in social work and I am working in an educational program for students after they graduate from high school. We strive to guide our graduates through the job application process and help them find a job at a place where they can improve their talents and education.
For many years now, God has laid it on my heart to work with kids and teenagers. The first time I learned about Camp Arrowwood was when I came to work at the ranch in 2011 as a mentor. Summer time is my favorite time of the year and I got excited about this Camp program and always wanted to come back to work. Last year was my first time at Camp Arrowwood and I am so thrilled to be back this summer!

Klara Burger

Food Service Manager

While I'm originally from Massachusetts, I have loved living in Tennessee for the past three years. This will be my second summer cooking for Camp Arrowwood, and I can't wait for camp to begin! I have always loved cooking, but I especially enjoy seeing a dining hall full of once hungry campers and staff, now filled and satisfied. There is nothing quite like working alongside the LITs and other staff members to give the campers a great week at Camp Arrowwood!
