Where is my Favorite Horse?

Ever wondered what your favorite camp horse does during the school year when Camp Arrowwood isn’t in full swing?

They’re working hard serving the children of Wears Valley Ranch (wvr.org), Camp Arrowwood’s home campus. All students help with horse chores, regardless of whether or not they come for organized class at the barn. “Ranching” is an elective class that the students can come take at the barn where they learn ground and mounted horsemanship skills, learn English and Western riding disciplines, help with ranch responsibilities like fencing projects and caring for the calves, and more. An example of how the horses serve the kids at Wears Valley Ranch...

"Naomi" has some processing challenges and often struggles with repetitive tasks. When riding, it is easy for her to focus on what the horse is doing wrong instead of focusing on what she needs to be doing as the horse’s leader. Think Hebrews 12:1-2, “... let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” Naomi has an exceptional ability to follow truth. As she focuses on her riding principles instead of her horse, the horse improves. It has helped her understand her ability to affect her circumstances by focusing on the truth.
